Unfortunately, at the time of William
Tolliver’s death, there were many
reproductions and originals that he had yet
to sign. Due to this, there are several
series and originals that have been signed
and/or certified by The Estate of William
Tolliver.
1.) What does it mean when a reproduction is
signed by the estate?
This means that the art has an Estate
approved and authorized stamp signature
placed on it.
2.) What does it mean when an
original is certified by the estate?
This means that your original is
certified by the Estate that it was part of
the artists Estate upon his death.
3.) When a piece is estate signed, is it
part of the original series, or a reprint?
It has always been common practice with
William Tolliver, and his Estate, that once
a series has been set at a certain number,
(ie, “Dancers” has 850 Signed and
Numbered) that there are never
any reprints. All artwork that is estate
signed is part of the same edition as
the artwork that is artist signed.
All new series released by the estate are
complete estate signed editions.
4.) Will Estate Signed art appreciate in
value?
The primary determining factors in
whether or not a series will increase in
value is the popularity and notability of
the artist, and the edition size of the
series. Limited Edition artwork, typically,
always increase in value over time as it
sells out. The larger the edition size,
however, the less value series tends to
attain.
Estate Authorized, Estate and Plate
Signed reproductions are common among some of the
most famous and well known deceased artists. ie, Romare Bearden, Marc Chagall, and
Picasso all have estate signed artwork
valued into the thousands.
5.) Will my Estate Signed artwork come
with a Certificate of Authenticity?
All Limited Edition artwork and originals
comes with a Certificate of Authenticity
that is signed by estate representative and
executor, DeAnna Tolliver.
